Comparatives and superlatives are some of the hardest parts of the english language to grasp, even for native English speakers. Sometimes, there is more than one way to write them as well such as with the word 'vain'. When comparing you say 'more vain than...' but when you are using it as a superlative you can use both 'most vain' and 'vainest' depending on your sentence structure.
